ITALY
The musical career of bassist Giovanni Tommaso began in 1958 with the Quintet of Lucca, his home town where he was born in Jan. 20th 1941. From December 1959 he was in New York for six months having the privilege to be exposed to the best scene of modern jazz history.
In 1967 he moved to Rome where he had the opportunity to play and record with some of the greatest jazz musicians at the time including Sonny Rollins, Gerry Mulligan, Dexter Gordon, Chet Baker, Gil Evans, Max Roach, Lionel Hampton, John Lewis and many others.
Since 1978 he created a new jazz quintet under his name with young talented musicians who became some of the most prestigious names in Italian jazz, such as Stefano Bollani, Danilo Rea, Paolo Fresu, Massimo Urbani, Roberto Gatto.
In 2003 the Berklee College of Music awarded Giovanni the honorary Doctorate in Jazz alongside Sonny Rollins and Bobby McFerrin.

An eclectic mix of styles, his music integrates multiple sources of inspiration with powerful and yet intricate compositions that combine sounds heavily rooted on groove music as well as complex melodies influenced by the virtuosity of modern saxophonists.

MIXING VANITY TRIO

Stich Wynston is a drummer, composer, bandleader and sideman born and based in Toronto, Canada. He attended York University from 1980-1985 where he graduated with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree majoring in music. Stich has performed with numerous jazz artists and ensembles including: Julius Hemphill, Jon Ballantyne, Phil Dwyer.
Matt Lagan is an internationally acclaimed tenor saxophonist. After joining the Shuffle Demons he decided to continue to expand himself musically and personally be relocating to Berlin where he started the band KWARTS with Bela Meinberg, Nathan Ott and Louis Navarro and is involved in several other projects in the city.
Multiple JUNO award winner Mike Downes has been a prominent Canadian bassist, composer, arranger and educator since the early 1980s. In addition to leading his own groups, Mike has performed with virtually all of Canada's top jazz musicians, including Molly Johnson, Oliver Jones, PJ Perry, Lorne Lofsky, Don Thompson, Kirk MacDonald, Robi Botos and Pat LaBarbera and many others.
From the musical hotbed of Powell River, British Columbia Canada, Steve Carson is a young saxophonist with a deep passion for sharing music with others. Steve had the honour of studying with Canadian saxophone greats Alex Dean & Kirk Macdonald, Phil Dwyer and Jodi Proznick. Carson has also been recognized for his musical excellence at both the National and Provincial level. For Steve music is a lifelong pursuit and he takes extreme joy in sharing his love for it with others.
Lucas Martínez graduated in 2016 with a Bachelor degree from the ESMUC (Escuela Superior de Música de Catalunya) and in 2018 with a Master degree from the Conservatorium van Amsterdam. He has been actively playing with multi-cultural bands of the Dutch and Spanish jazz scene, such as Guy Salamon Group, among others. He has performed in festivals and stages of China, Mexico, USA, UK, Luxembourg, The Netherlands, Portugal, Italy, Austria and Poland. Together with Guy Salamon Group won the Keep An EYE Records Award (2018).
